XeqanXəqan Hacızadə

Born in Masalli, Azerbaijan, Xəqan began formal piano study at twelve and completed seven years of training. The instrument became a way to explore his own ideas: first through short pieces, and later through longer works and collections. Today, he publishes music as Xeqan, while using Xəqan Hacızadə for songwriter credits on his original compositions.

A personal musical language

Memory, longing, and stillness recur throughout his work. The piano gives these themes a direct voice, while ambient textures and cinematic orchestration open a wider space around it. Across his catalogue, the scale may change from a close piano recording to a broader production, but melody remains a point of connection.

Releases including Three Years, Həsrət (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), Hidden Light, and Once in October offer different ways into this music. The new album Our October brings together nineteen original instrumental compositions, continuing his work with the piano and the atmosphere of a complete record.

Another conversation with the piano

Alongside original music, Xeqan has created piano arrangements of songs performed by Könül Xasıyeva, including Sən Məndən Xəbərsiz and Məni Tənha Qoyma. These works explore how a familiar vocal melody can meet the sound of the piano. His catalogue also includes Euphoria, a move into contemporary electronic production.
